Cookie Policy

  • Introduction

Cookie Policy explains how we (Arculus Funds Management) use cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit our website or interact with us online.  We use them because they facilitate and enhance your ‘user experience’ when you visit our website (www.arculus.com.au).  They also provide us with information about your visits, in general statistical terms and also about how use our website.

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how we use them, and your choices regarding their use.

  • Consenting to our use of Cookies

By continuing to use our website, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy.

You can, of course, configure your browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, or notify you when a cookie is sent.  Each browser is different, so check the ‘Help’ menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.

If you disable (or block?) the use of cookies when you visit our website or at any point on your web browser, or remove or reject specific cookies from our website, it may affect the functionality of our website or your access to particular content or facilities.  See Section X? (Managing Cookies & Settings).

  • What are Cookies?

‘Cookies’ are small (text? data? information?) files placed (and can become stored) on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile, hard-drive? web browser??) by a website when you visit. Their use is wide-spread.  They help websites function efficiently, remember your preferences and provide a more ‘personalised browsing experience’.

Cookies may contain various types of information, such as a ‘User ID’ which the website then uses to track the pages you visit.

  • There are different types of Cookies

Cookies have a ‘life’, lasting for different lengths of time, depending on their purpose. Some are temporary and remain in your browser’s ‘cookie file’ until you leave the site (they are active for a ‘single-session’).  They are called ‘session cookies’.  Examples are those which help you finish an application forms or surveys.

There are ‘persistent cookies’, which are stored on your device and help websites remember your information and settings when you next visit them.  They may remain until they expire (e.g. up to six months) or until you remove them from your browser.

Both categories may either be ‘first-party cookies’ (set by, for instance, our website) or ‘third-party cookies’ (set by external parties providing ‘analytics’ or ‘advertising services’ to us).  We may allow third-party service providers to place cookies on your device through our website in order to, for instance, collect information about your online activities across different websites.

  • The Cookies we use and how we use them

We use cookies to facilitate website functionality, performance and to personalise the ‘user-experience’.   They enable basic functions and services on our website. These are ‘essential cookies’ and set automatically.  We also set ‘optional cookies’ to help us improve our website and support our marketing activities.  Our third-party providers may assist us make use of the ‘optional cookies’.

We use ‘first’ and ‘third party cookies’ on our website.  The ‘first party cookies’ are set and can only be read by us.  The ‘third party cookies’ are set by another organisation and might be used to track visitor interactions or to target advertising.  For example, we use ‘Google Analytics Cookies’ to help us improve your experience by collecting and reporting information on how you use our website. The cookies collect information in a way which does NOT directly identify anyone.

We employ ‘first-party cookies’ for site operation and analytics, and ‘third-party cookies’ (like ‘Google Analytics’??) to track how visitors use our website in order to guide how we may improve the ‘user-experience’.

We use ‘first-party cookies’ for the website to function, similar to other websites that need them for essential tasks like remembering user settings, login details, and language preferences. These cookies are set by our website itself to improve the ‘user-experience’ by collecting ‘usage-data’ for analytical purposes.

The ‘first-party cookies’ are created by the website a user is visiting (in this case, our domain). They are used to enhance the user’s experience on that site.  Examples of their use on our website would include remembering that you are logged in or keeping your language preference settings.  Information gathered by these cookies does not leave the website domain.

It is not possible to provide a definitive list of every ‘third-party cookies’ used by us without inspecting the website’s specific configuration. They are set by domains other than the one you are visiting, so an accurate list would require an analysis of the cookies currently set by our website through your browser’s ‘developer tools’.  Many browsers(?) have already phased out or are in the process of phasing out third-party cookies, so their usage is becoming less common.

Check for ‘third-party cookies’ yourself…

You can check for ‘third-party cookies’ by going to our website and looking at your browser’s ‘cookie settings’.  Select the website and analyse the domain of each cookie. Any cookie set by a domain other than ours would be a ‘third-party cookie’

We use the following types of cookies for various purposes:

  • Essential Cookies: These ‘Strictly Necessary Cookies’ are necessary for the proper functioning of our website and cannot be ‘switched-off’.  They enable core functionality such as page navigation and access to secure areas. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but then some parts of the site will not work. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.
  • Functional Cookies: These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation.  They enhance navigation, ensure security, and maintain online service sessions.  They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our pages or otherwise included on our website.  If you do not allow these cookies, then some or all of these services may not function properly.  Third-party cookies are used by websites for analytics, advertising, and other services provided by external partners.
  • Performance & Analytics Cookies: These ‘first-party’ and ‘third-party cookies’, such as those from ‘Google Analytics’(?), track visitor numbers and traffic sources.  Information is collected about how visitors use our website, such as the pages they visit, the time spent on each page, and the links clicked. This data enables us to understand ‘user preferences’ and improve the experience and performance of our website.  They ‘identify’ which pages are the most and least popular and how users move around our website.  All this information is aggregated and (typically?) anonymous.
  • Preference Cookies: These cookies allow our website to remember information that changes the way the website behaves or looks, such as your preferred language or region.
  • Personalisation Cookies: These ‘persistent cookies’ may be used to provide a personalised experience, such as allowing users to save particular information which can be retrieved during future visits.
  • Targeting Cookies: These cookies may be set through our site by our ‘advertising partners’, to be used to build a profile of your interests, based on your browsing behaviour on our and other websites, in order to provide relevant, personalised advertisements (including while visiting other sites). They do not store personal information directly but do ‘uniquely identify’ your browser and internet device.  If you do not allow these cookies, you will still receive advertisements but it will be ‘less relevant’.

In short, and by way of example, we use them to:

  • allocate an identification number to your ‘internet browser’ (you can’t be identified by this number);
  • check if your browser has previously visited our website and, if so, remember your settings and preferences;
  • track and report on ‘website usage’;
  • identify other pages or ‘third party websites’ your browser accesses;
  • personalise your experience and make it easier for you to do what you wish on our website (e.g. we can provide customised content, support and advertising more likely to be relevant to you); and
  • provide enhanced security and fraud detection.

We also use ‘Pixels’…

Our website (and digital assets?) may also use pixels, which are invisible tags often found on webpages, in ads, or within email and other digital marketing. Pixels often work in conjunction with cookies and register instances when a specific device accesses a particular page. For example, pixels can quantify the number of individuals who visit our websites or enrol in a service following exposure to a specific advertisement.

  • The privacy of information gathered by Cookies

Cookies are used to identify individual users, your ‘browser type’, and your ‘internet service provider’.  They collect information in a way that does NOT directly identify you personally.  We do NOT associate information collected by cookies with your ‘investment or financial information’

For more information on how we use, disclose and protect the personal information we collect from clients and others who are ‘individuals’, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

You have the option to accept or decline cookies when you visit our website.  You can manage your ‘cookie preferences’ on our website by clicking on the button below.  [You may be able to choose which types you’d like to accept by selecting ‘Manage Cookie Settings’ in the footer of our website. ?]

You can configure your ‘browser settings’ (via your ‘browser privacy settings’?) to accept all cookies, reject all cookies or notify you when a cookie is sent. Each browser is different, so check the ‘Help’ menu of your browser to learn how to change your ‘cookie preferences’.

To turn off the cookies on your browser, please visit www.allaboutcookies.org which can assist you in managing cookies. Please note we can take no responsibility for your reliance on the information provided on this site.
